spider, waiting

this spider . . . was freaking HUGE . . . and I was putting my hand close up to it for macro shots . . . I was terrified. I flinched when leaf fell from the tree next to me and landed on my arm, honestly. But since it was sitting in a web I knew it was a trapper not a hunter, and was unlikely to suddenly jump on me and attack me. But this thing's leg span was about the same as my handspan, if not bigger. Freaking terrifying.

FYI I have now found out (by actually looking it up) that is is one of the 'Nephila pilipes' species, formerly 'maculata' subspecies I think. It's a Golden Orb-Weaving spider.
